Hiroshi Nagao

Hiroshi Nagao, age 95, passed away peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, October 27, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary, and their children Cindy (Roy) and Dennis (Gale). Hiroshi will also be greatly missed by his three grandchildren, Marsha (Govind), Michael, and Matthew (Julia) and his two great-grandchildren, Priya and Phillip.
He was born in Sacramento, CA on March 26, 1923 and raised in Japan prior to returning to California in 1941. He was interned at the Amache (Granada) camp in Colorado and relocated to Chicago after he regained his freedom. There he was introduced to and married fellow Amache internee Mary Murakami on Aug 29, 1948 at the Midwest Buddhist Temple. While they lived in Chicago for over 50 years before relocating to Atlanta, they kept touch with other camp residents and attended reunions for as long as their health allowed.
Hiroshi was a quiet, dignified man, blessed with a good nature, and took pleasure in the simple things in life: a can of Bud while cheering on his beloved White Sox on TV, watching classic samurai flicks, or just fishing off the rocks around Belmont Harbor. He especially enjoyed celebrating holidays and special occasions with his family. His great hobby was amassing a large stamp collection which he loved and maintained with meticulous care.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was much loved in return and his family will miss him greatly.
