Resided in: Canton, GA

A devoted wife, mother, and friend. A spiritual and geographic nomad, curator of beauty, and life of the party.

Audrey Elizabeth Warnick (née Hession), passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2023, in Canton, Georgia, after a full and active life. Born on November 12, 1938, in Derby, Connecticut to Edward and Doris Hession, Audrey was the eldest of her siblings, Doris “Dottie” Hession, and Edward Charles Hession Jr. During childhood, her family moved from Connecticut, to Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and California. She attended Pasadena City College, and was active in the journalism club, and relished capturing stories and photos of people, places, and events.

After marriage, she and her husband Joseph moved to Marietta, Georgia, where they raised their three children. She was an active volunteer – she ran the Church bookshop, was the wardrobe mistress of the local ballet company, she worked with a women’s shelter, and taught English as a second language. She was fascinated by and explored spiritual philosophies and pathways. Audrey was an enthusiastic Bridge and Mahjong player in her community. She was an avid genealogical researcher and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After launching her children to adulthood, she pursued her passion for travel with her husband, friends, and family. She was always up for adventure, whether riding elephants in Thailand, playing penny slot machines at local casinos with her ‘posse’ of friends, or digging for diamonds in Missouri.

Audrey married Joseph Robert Warnick in November 1960, and dedicated herself to her marriage until his death in March 2013. During their 53 years of marriage, she cultivated a warm and supportive family life. She created happy and hilarious memories for many with her Christmas “white elephant” parties. It was her way of making every holiday special. She enjoyed creating a beautiful home and happy memories. Her greatest gift to her children was cultivating their sense of independence and adventure. She loved becoming a grandmother and watching her grandchildren develop.

Audrey is survived by her sister Dottie Kiser, her three loving children and spouses: Elizabeth (and Gavin) Macgregor- Skinner, Joseph (and Paula) Warnick, and Andrew (and Christine) Warnick; her grandchildren: Joshua, Seth, Olivia (and Joshua), Andrei, Ryan, Katya, Jamie and Audrey, and great-grandchild, Dimitri; sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She embraced many friends as family throughout her life.

A celebration of life will be held on August 5, 2023, from 5-7pm, at The Fairways of Canton, 400 Laurel Canyon Parkway, Canton, GA 30114. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to MUST Ministries.

Our family celebrates Audrey’s beautiful and full life, and we share our gratitude with all who have journeyed with her and supported her throughout her life.

  1. Carol F Detweiler says:

It is with deep sadness to learn of Audrey’s passing. We first met in high school (Goshen, Indiana) and became best of friends. We stayed in touch even when she and her family moved to California in our senior year. Joe and my brother Bill were also best friends; as a matter of fact Bill introduced Audrey and Joe. The Hessions lived on the Rose Bowl parade route in South Pasadena and Joe went to their home to watch the parade. Little did anyone know what that would lead to! After they were married, I visited them a number of times in California and Audrey took me for my first visit to Disneyland.

I also stayed with them many times in Marietta. Audrey and I loved to shop and watch movies, either in the theater or on VHS tape; there was a small rental shop where we would pick out several tapes to watch. We had a fun trip to Biloxi where, of course, we went to casinos. It got to be 10:oo p.m. and Joe and I were ready to call it a day, but Audrey thought she was just getting started.

Our most ambitious trip was to Great Britain, where we went to Windsor Castle to watch an outdoor Shakespearean production, but it was cold, windy and raining. We left at intermission! We enjoyed the sites of Scotland and, wouldn’t you know, Audrey found a street with casino after casino in Edinburgh–she was in heaven.

I have many fond memories of our friendship and extend my sympathy to her family.. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I too. Have fond memories of Audrey and Joe. We took Tai Chi classes here at Soleil when we were all new in the community .We all had fun and it was great to get to know them.

Audrey will be missed in so many ways. Always ready for a game of bridge, a trip, a casino and many more fun things. I have so many fond memories of all the great times we shared. A great friend indeed. RIP
