Resided in: Cumming, Georgia

Donald L. Dunagan of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully March 17, 2025, due to complications from Lewy body dementia.  He was 89.  Don was born and raised in Atlanta where he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth, who predeceased him after fifty-six years of marriage.  Don is survived by their three sons Dal (Elise), Damon (Cheryl), and Chris (Georgia), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jean Carmony, brother-in-law Albert Rary (Kathleen), numerous nephews and nieces, and his lovely and beloved second wife of six years, Rita.  Don served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft weapons mechanic, after which he worked for the Atlanta Water Works where he became interested in plumbing.  He went on to become “the world’s second greatest plumber,” saying he never met the greatest plumber but assumed they were out there somewhere.  He took great pride in his craftsmanship and will be remembered by some for installing the plumbing in many fine custom homes around Atlanta, but his most cherished legacy is the sons he raised and the grandchildren who called him “Poppa.”  He loved the outdoors and spending time with those he loved.  Behind his quick wit and sometimes gruff exterior was a tender, loving heart and a generous spirit.  He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was deeply loved and loved deeply in his own ways.  The family is grateful to all of Don’s care providers for their tender care for him.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial gift in his name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.  Secure contributions also may be made online via   https://www.lbda.org/donate/ .
